Youth Ambassador (Youth Management Board)

Creative Academies Network (CAN) has an exciting opportunity for up to twelve creative, passionate and dedicated 16 – 26 year olds to form its Youth Management Board (YMB). These voluntary positions will help steer the direction of CAN and play an integral role in ensuring CAN continues to engage with young people from across Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Dudley (Black Country).

Successful applicants will commit to a 12-month position on the YMB and attend at least 10 meetings per year, as well as participate in training and other engagement activities to support your own personal development that will feed into the responsibilities of the YMB. In addition you may select to sit on our specific project steering committees.

Acting as ambassadors for CAN, the YMB will be invited to get involved and support CAN to ensure that young people are central to our future. In addition, it is essential that you can demonstrate a clear commitment to the development of young people and local communities across the Black Country. The successful young person must either currently live, work or learn in Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Walsall or Dudley. Have enthusiasm for one or more of the following:

  • Arts, Culture and Heritage
  • Sports, Health and Wellbeing
  • Education, Employment and Enterprise
  • Social Media and Marketing
  • Youth Social Action, Volunteering and Leadership

During the 12-month period all Youth Management Board Members will have a series of opportunities made available in order to help develop leadership potential, knowledge of sector and business management. As this is a development role, we are seeking varied young people at different stages of their journey/career, but loads of energy and enthusiasm is a requirement. Due to the nature of the YMB, evening and weekend attendance/work may be required.

If you are interested and passionate about the opportunity, please down our application or submit a short 3 minute video (no technical skills required) or schedule a telephone interview, that responds to the following.

  • Why you are interested in becoming YMB member?
  • The knowledge, skills and experience that you can bring?
  • Why is your local area important to you?
  • An interesting fact about yourself that you would like us to know?

It is important to us that formal processes are not considered as a barrier, so we are happy to arrange a telephone conversation about this opportunity.

All success shortlisted submissions will be required to attend a group session.

CAN is strongly committed to diversity. We strive to recruit, retain and advance people of all backgrounds so that our workforce reflects the diversity of our communities. For more information, please email

iCan Champion (Project Steering Committee)

Our iCAN Champions are volunteers who play a key role in enabling and advocating our youth-led iCAN Campaign through digital innovation, social media, leadership and creative consultation. iCAN Champions are the ones that create the buzz while connecting young people, communities and places together. We are looking for a group of young people aged 16 – 25 that are passionate about supporting communities, developing creative practice and are willing to get involved in a buzzing social media campaign across Sandwell.

As an iCAN Champion you will mostly be out and about and based at our main space in YMCA, 38 Carters Green, West Bromwich, B70 9LG whilst also being involved in fun events, trips and experiences.

About the iCAN Campaign

#iCAN Sandwell is a youth-led social media campaign called #iCAN in order to accelerate aspirations and ambitions for young people aged 14-21yrs through online and offline campaigning across Sandwell. This will be a great opportunity to enhance your portfolio, develop your digital skills and to be a part of a regionally recognised programme.

The campaign will engage young people to develop positive messages through Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram using the hashtag #iCAN with supporting text or images to reinforce their involvement in the campaign. The campaign will work with local people, organisations and Sandwell-based primary and secondary schools that will allow a wealth of beneficiaries to engage with the hashtag #iCAN.

If you would like to join the team or would like more information, please email or call 0121 524 3232.

Please note that this is a voluntary role.
